Varietal Qualities
Dolcetto translates to “little sweet one” in Italian, although the wines are perfectly dry by modern day wine making terms. In the vineyard Dolcetto is similar to Pinot Noir in the sense that it is rather sensitive to its soils and climate. In the cellar the grape’s dark purple skins require only a short maceration time to produce deeply colored wine with good tannin. Ultimately in our California soil the finished wines are medium bodied yet retain the candied cherry, licorice and almond flavor characteristics of their Italian heritage.
Wine Notes
Nose of exotic spices and herbs, backed by layers of redcurrants, raspberries and summer fruits. Flavors of plums on palate with fine tannins. Medium bodied, elegant with lingering acidity at the finish.
