Vintage 2014: 90 points, Wine Enthusiast

“There’s a distinct suggestion of citrus pith on the nose of this bottling, along with tight almond and sea salt aromas. The palate leads with a touch of ripeness, but finds a firm structure and chalky backbone, proving rather racy, albeit with hazelnut-like richness. A well polished wine.” —Matt Kettman

Vintage 2014:  Silver, San Francisco Chronicle

Grevino Riesling

Varietal Qualities

The Riesling grape was originally planted in Germany, where the cool climate produces wines of bright, crisp acidity and floral aromas. In warmer areas, such as ours, Riesling shows balanced citrus flavors of lime zest and peach. While many Rieslings are sweet, ours is of a drier style.

Wine Notes

Fruity and ripe fruits of pineapple, meyer lemon and ginger on the nose as well as varietal scents of petrol. Ripe and red apple, pear and the beautiful mingling of acid and sugar support the expressive fruitiness quite wonderfully. Slightly off dry.

“Yellow rose, honey-glazed almond, tangerine peel and beeswax aromas combine for a complex nose in this bottling from a new label. It’s quite dry and tightly wound on the palate, where waxy flavors of sour orange, lemon spritz and grapefruit peel leave a bittersweet impression, finishing with a hint of petrol.” —Matt Kettman

“The nose of this bottling from the former Addamo Vineyard is full of underbrush and sage notes, with complex layers of candied raspberry, wisteria and cinnamon stick aromas. Juicy raspberry and pomegranate flavors kick off the palate, where allspice, nutmeg, dried ginger and flowering thyme notes coalesce.” —Matt Kettman

Grevino Syrah

Varietal Qualities

Syrah is widely planted throughout the world and does especially well in the Rhone Valley of France, Australia and the West Coast of the US. It is dark-skinned and highly resistant to disease but can be prone to over-cropping, so constant diligence in the vineyard is required to bring out the best in this varietal.

Wine Notes

Tart blueberry, fresh leather and dried meat dominate the nose giving homage to the Rhône valley with a new world of soul. Flavors of black pepper, plum and berry are upfront with a refreshing acidity and low alcohol resulting in a balanced wine that will open up in the coming years and become something very special.

“Concentrated cassis and black plum aromas meet pepper, tar and pressed violet notes on the nose of this bottling. The well-structured palate is fresh and floral, with peppery spice, tart blackberry flavors and sticky tannins, but is very reserved at this stage of its life.” —Matt Kettman

Grevino Grenache

Varietal Qualities

Grenache is widely grown in Spain and the Southern Rhone of France, where it provides the backbone for Chateauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas. While lighter in color than some other reds, Grenache presents with lovely berry and spice notes and can, with careful vineyard management, create some of the most elegant and complex wines in the world.

Wine Notes

New world meets old world with scents of raspberry, rose petal, dust and underbrush. Flavors of cranberry, spice, fennel and herb grow in intensity on the moderately long finish with welcoming tannins giving a drying finish.

“A savory version of Grenache, this bottling’s hints of black pepper and thyme notes pair well with the boysenberry, carnation and rose petal aromas. The mouthfeel is rich and spicy in white and black pepper, which decorate the tart and lively black-raspberry core.” —Matt Kettman

Grevino Dolcetto

Varietal Qualities

Dolcetto translates to “little sweet one” in Italian, although the wines are perfectly dry by modern day wine making terms.  In the vineyard Dolcetto is similar to Pinot Noir in the sense that it is rather sensitive to its soils and climate.  In the cellar the grape’s dark purple skins require only a short maceration time to produce deeply colored wine with good tannin.  Ultimately in our California soil the finished wines are medium bodied yet retain the candied cherry, licorice and almond flavor characteristics of their Italian heritage.

Wine Notes

A well rounded wine with aromas of blueberry, raspberry and baking spice.  One the palate, the wine opens with ripe fruit flavors such as black cherries and red currant followed by a long, pleasing finish with soft tannins and dark fruits.

“Ripe black cherry, roasted meat, wet stone and caramel notes show on the nose of this bottling of a grape rarely seen in this region. It’s slightly sweet on the palate, with ripe blueberry and cocoa flavors, but compelling for its novelty.” —Matt Kettman
